Advent in Europe is the time for Christmas markets. The history of Christmas markets goes back to the late Middle Ages and it’s related with the German-speaking part of the Europe (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the French region of Alsace on the border with Germany). In the present days the tradition spread to other parts of the Europe, e.g. Belgium, Northern Italy, England, Baltic States and Slavic countries. German immigrants also brought the Christmas market celebrations to the United States.
Today Berlin claims over 70 Christmas markets (in German: Weihnachtsmarkt), which open in late November and close just after Christmas. How do they look like? 😀
Fröhliche Weihnachten! 😀
